Around the Halls
Some of the teachers here at M.I.T. put up the work of their students in the halls to show off what they have done lately in class.

Mr B.

The 6th graders who get to be in this explorative class, they get to decorate a poster of a commercial they would want to record themselves.(Shown in the picture below)

The 7th graders get to do something a little bit differently. They still get to record each other doing a commercial, but they can also record a school game.
The 8th graders,on the other hand,do what is called KMIT.KMIT is Mckinley’s morning news, they announce what’s going on at M.I.T.

Mr. Christianson
Mr. Christianson, also know as Tim by his students,is a great art teacher here at M.I.T.He gives his students fun and creative projects to do in his explorative art classes. The pictures shown below are one of the most favorite projects that students have done in his art class.Students got a small piece of styrofoam and drew any picture they wanted. They got different colored construction paper and used special acrylic paint to rub on top of the styrofoam. After, they got their new painted picture and put it on the construction paper to make these beautiful pictures.

Yosemite
Have you wondered why kids have been walking funny at school? With big hiking shoes? It's because they've been wearing them to break them in, it’s almost October 28th are you ready for Yosemite?

Yosemite is a place where anyone can go and discover new things about nature. This year, 8th graders from McKinley Institute of Technology will be going. We don’t know if it is going to be cold or hot. Since M.I.T. will be going in October the students have to take warm clothes.
The students climb mountains and walk about 3-5 miles every day. We had a practice hike on Sunday, September 30th it started at 3 at Edgewood Park. We asked that they take their hiking boots and a backpack with at least 5 lbs.The 8th graders this year will not be staying in Cury Village. That is because there was a infection that was transmitted by mice. Cury Village was shut down. The hotel they will be staying in is very far from Cury Village (about 1 hour), so parents please don’t worry about the infection. The students will be safe as long as they follow the rules.
Wawona Hotel
The hotel is named the Wawona it is very pretty and all of the students will be safe. There will be 4 kids in every room from the same gender. Your child will be asked who they will like in their room, so kids get to choose their roommates. We ask that kids bring their sleeping bag because they might be sharing a bed with another student (double bed). There will be adults that check every room at night to make sure everything is fine.
The cost per student is $350.00 Students will be fundraising by selling chocolates. If your child would like to sell chocolates please ask for a form at the school office. Out of the $50 your child sells, $25 will be going towards the Yosemite trip. You could also just give the $350.00 in payments throughout this year. As long as the trip is paid before the 8th graders graduation. 40-45 (maybe 50) students will be going on this fieldtrip.

If students go they will leave on October 28, 2012 on Sunday morning, the bus will be leaving from McKinley at 8 a.m. and they will arrive at Yosemite at 3 p.m. They ask for your children to bring lunch for that day because the bus will not be stopping to buy food. Parent chaperones are needed. If parents would like to volunteer please ask for a form at the McKinley office.
The students will be at Yosemite for 6 days and will be coming back on Friday, November 2nd. It will be an astonishing trip if you are going, you will not regret it. You will have so much fun. Yosemite here we come!
